Some details of Wade’s contract have been released.
Between the base figure and supplemental compensation, Will Wade will make $2.5 million in his first season as the head coach at NC State, and he’ll receive a bump of $150,000 in each subsequent year.
There are academic- and performance-related bonuses that he can earn each season as well—an ACC tournament title is worth $100,000 and a Sweet Sixteen appearance is worth $250,000, for example. There are also bonuses for finishing in the final AP/Coaches top 25 and for winning ACC or national coach of the year. All of that is pretty standard.
If you’d like to peruse the contract, you can do so here. Wade’s three assistants will make a combined $850,000, while program general manager Andrew Slater will make $400,000—more than any of the assistants on the bench. That’s a good indicator of the importance of Slater’s job (and the cost of prying someone away from the NBA).
