RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — How does a trip to a tropical island in February sound?
NC State baseball will have just that as they will open the 2026 season in Puerto Rico. On Tuesday, the school’s athletic department announced the Wolfpack will be one of the eight teams set to take part in the Puerto Rico Baseball Challenge, which will run from Feb. 13 to 16.
The collegiate invitational will be played at two stadiums on the island: Estadio Francisco Montaner in Ponce and Estadio Yldefonso Solá Morales in Caguas.
NC State, which finished the 2025 season with a 35-21 record, won’t be the only Atlantic Coast Conference representative in the event. Wake Forest and Boston College are also among the participants, with Washington, Houston, Seton Hall, Indiana State and Manhattan rounding out the field of eight.
More details such as opponents, game times and ticket information will be released later on, the athletic department said.
The Wolfpack finished fourth in the ACC last season and earned a No. 2 spot in the NCAA Tournament’s Auburn Regional, where they were knocked out by the host team.
