CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — For the second year in a row, North Carolina baseball is hosting a super regional round of the NCAA DI baseball tournament.
The No. 5 Tar Heels are set to face off against the Arizona Wildcats in the 2025 Chapel Hill Super Regional this weekend with a berth in the College World Series in Omaha on the line.
UNC (45-13), the winners of the Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament, won the Chapel Hill Regional this past weekend. The Diamond Heels went undefeated until Sunday night, when they lost 9-5 to the Oklahoma Sooners in the second of what would be three games total between the two teams in the double-elimination event. In the winner-take-all game on Monday afternoon, Carolina dominated the Sooners 14-4 to advance to the next round.
Arizona (42-18) came out of the Eugene Regional, an event that saw the host team, the twelfth-ranked Oregon Ducks, eliminated in just two games. The Wildcats, who won the Big 12 Tournament championship this season, went undefeated in the regional. They bested Cal Poly twice and Utah Valley once to clinch their spot in the supers.
The two teams will now play a best-of-three series at Boshamer Stadium beginning Friday to determine who makes the trip to Omaha. Here’s the schedule for the weekend, with the designated home team in bold.
