CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — The North Carolina Tar Heels will be the center of the most anticipated college football season ever in the Triangle, and it’s all due to one name — Bill Belichick. But how will his extremely successful NFL coaching career translate to the college game?
In CBS 17’s college football kickoff show, our sports department discusses UNC football’s quest to run a pro-style program within the parameters of the NCAA and with young players still adjusting from the high school game.
Like last year, one of the most pressing questions for the Tar Heels ahead of the season is: Who will be the starting quarterback? Max Johnson won the job last season, but suffered a serious leg injuring in the opening game at Minnesota. He’s back this year and competing for the spot with South Alabama transfer Gio Lopez.
The answer to that question will come in just over two weeks when UNC opens against TCU at Kenan Stadium on Labor Day night. Within a month of that first game, the Tar Heels will also travel to Orlando to face UCF and host Clemson. Their conference schedule ends with the traditional rivalry game against NC State — a matchup the Tar Heels have lost for four consecutive years.
CBS 17 Sports examines these topics and more in the college football kickoff show, which can be viewed in its entirety above or on CBS+.
