It looked like Hubert Davis and North Carolina might be heading for yet another loss on the road.
Then Elliot Cadeau saved the day.
The New Jersey native hit a corner 3-pointer and then an ensuing free throw with 4 seconds remaining after being fouled by Matt Allocco to give North Carolina a 74-73 win at Notre Dame.
“We needed three points, and I felt like that was the best open look we could have got,” Cadeau told reporters.

The Irish had one more chance to win it for the Irish (7-7) but Markus Burton (23 points) could not convert in the paint as time expired.
“I didn’t know it was an and-1,” Davis told reporters.
“I was hoping that it went in, but I was prepared to call a timeout to set up our defense, and they said, ‘Don’t call timeout.’ And I said, ‘I’m calling a timeout to set up our defense.’ And they said, ‘He’s going to the free throw line.’ And I said, ‘Who’s going to the free throw line?’ And they said Elliot.
“And so I told them, after Elliot made his free throw, we were calling timeout to set up our defense. And we were able to get a stop at the end.”
New York City native Ian Jackson went for a career-high 27 points for the Tar Heels (9-6).
“Ian Jackson helped himself today,” one NBA scout told ZAGSBLOG.
Cadeau finished with 10 points and 6 assists while battling foul trouble. RJ Davis struggled and managed just 8 points with 6 assists.
