CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — Can a North Carolina men’s basketball team that lost three starters repeat as Atlantic Coast Conference champions?
On Tuesday night, the newly-expanded ACC released the full slate of conference schedules for all the men’s and women’s basketball teams.
RJ Davis and the Tar Heels open ACC play at home against Georgia Tech on Dec. 7. After a few more non-conference games to end the year, UNC opens 2025 with a game at Louisville on Jan. 1 and at Notre Dame on Jan. 4. While Carolina is not making a trip to the new ACC schools out west this season, they’ll also be traveling to Pitt, Clemson, Syracuse, Florida State and Virginia Tech in addition to the other schools within the state.
The Tar Heels will play at NC State on Jan. 11, then welcome their Raleigh rivals to Chapel Hill on Feb. 19. In the biggest rivalry in all of college basketball, UNC is set to play at Duke on Feb. 1 and then host the Blue Devils on March 8 for the last game of the regular season.
UNC’s non-conference schedule boasts November trips to Kansas and Hawaii as well as the 2024 Maui Invitational over Thanksgiving week. The Tar Heels host Alabama — who knocked Carolina out in the Sweet 16 last season — on Dec. 4 in the SEC/ACC Challenge. Later that month, UNC travels to Charlotte to face Florida in the Jumpman Invitational then to Madison Square Garden to play UCLA in the 2024 CBS Sports Classic.
Before the season officially starts, Carolina has three exhibitions: the Blue-White scrimmage at Harrah’s Resort in Cherokee, NC on Oct. 13; a charity game at Memphis to benefit St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital on Oct. 15; and a game at home against Johnson C. Smith on Oct. 27.
