CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — For the first time since 1919, North Carolina men’s basketball team will not host rival NC State in Chapel Hill.
That change in the usual schedule was one of the most notable things about the list of Atlantic Coast Conference opponents for the Tar Heels during the upcoming 2025-26 season, which was released by the league on Wednesday afternoon. The two programs will still square off once in the regular season, but in Raleigh.
What remains unchanged for UNC is the two traditional games against Duke, with one contest each in Chapel Hill and Durham. The ACC’s new scheduling format — adapted to account for the league’s decision to decrease the number of games combined with last year’s expansion — also has each team playing a home-and-away set against a rotating opponent. For the Tar Heels this year, it’s Syracuse.
There will also be one team that each school will not play each season. As a result, UNC will not face Boston College this upcoming regular season. They will, however, make trips to the Bay Area and Texas to visit the ACC’s newest members.
Here’s the list of the Tar Heels’ home and away opponents this season. Dates and times will be announced in the coming months.
