DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — Thanks to a double-bye as a result of finishing third in the league in the regular season, North Carolina baseball is the last team to start play in the 2025 Atlantic Coast Conference Championship tournament.
The third-seeded Tar Heels (39-12) play No. 14 seed Boston College (28-28) Friday night in the quarterfinal round. First pitch at Durham Bulls Athletic Park is scheduled for 7 p.m.
UNC enters the tournament having taken two of three games at Florida State in their final regular season series. The second of those games as an 11-1 game that was called after seven innings of play.
The Eagles have already played two games in the single-elimination ACC Tournament, having dispatched No. 11 seed Notre Dame 5-4 in 10 innings in the first round on Tuesday and then upsetting sixth-seeded Virginia 12-8 in the second round on Wednesday. In their last game against the Cavaliers, Boston College were aggressive on the base paths, successfully stealing seven bases.
The winner of Friday night’s game moves on to play in the second semifinal game on Saturday. They will face No. 2 seed Florida State, who dominated seventh-seeded Duke earlier Friday and won 14-7.
