CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — It wasn’t a spooky Halloween for Bill Belichick and the North Carolina football program as they earned their first Atlantic Coast Conference win on Oct. 31. Now, they’ll try to build off that momentum and get another win on homecoming weekend.
The Tar Heels (3-5 overall, 1-3 ACC) host the Stanford Cardinal (3-6, 2-4) late Saturday afternoon. Kick off at Kenan Stadium is set for 4:30 p.m.
UNC’s first ACC win came at Syracuse on Oct. 31. In the 27-10 victory, quarterback Gio Lopez threw for 216 yards and two passing touchdowns. Running back Demon June had 101 yards on the ground with a touchdown, and also had 81 receiving yards and caught one of Lopez’ touchdown passes.
Stanford is in the midst of a two-game skid. The Cardinal lost to Pitt 35-20 at home last Saturday, with starting quarterback Ben Gulbranson throwing 3 interceptions. He finished with 228 yards and a passing touchdown. Backup signal caller Elijah Brown later entered the game, recording 108 passing yards as well as a touchdown. Stanford receiver CJ Williams caught both scoring passes.
Up next for the Tar Heels is a short trip to Winston-Salem. UNC and Wake Forest are scheduled to play next Saturday afternoon.
