CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) — North Carolina baseball took care of business Friday afternoon in the opening game of the 2025 Chapel Hill Regional, and they now face Oklahoma in the winners bracket of the event.
The Tar Heels (43-12) and the Sooners (36-20) battle Saturday night at Boshamer Stadium. First pitch was originally scheduled for 6 p.m., but storms moving through the area forced it to be pushed back to 7:36 p.m. Jason DeCaro is UNC’s starting pitcher, while Kyson Witherspoon will start on the mound for Oklahoma.
The host team — the No. 5 team in the country going into the NCAA DI Tournament — shut out Holy Cross 4-0 Friday afternoon. Atlantic Coast Conference Pitcher of the Year Jake Knapp pitched 8.1 innings, striking out seven while allowing three walks and just four hits.
Oklahoma topped Nebraska in the nightcap, 7-4. Easton Carmichael and Drew Dickerson hit home runs for the Sooners in the victory.
The loser of Saturday night’s game will play Nebraska — who defeated Holy Cross earlier in the day in an elimination game — Sunday afternoon in another win-or-go-home situation. The winner of that game will then face the winner of Saturday night’s game.
