CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (WNCN) – University of North Carolina men’s basketball standout Seth Trimble is making history, but only this time, it’s not on the basketball court.
The 21-year-old guard has stepped into the world of business, using his earnings from name, image, and likeness deals to acquire the famous Ben & Jerry’s location on Franklin Street in Chapel Hill, officially becoming the youngest franchise owner in the history of the ice cream chain.
Trimble shared the news on Instagram with a post saying this purchase marks the accomplishment of a lifelong goal, as he leverages the newfound economic opportunities available to college athletes to further cement himself as an enduring fixture in the Chapel Hill community, even long after his playing days are over.
“In the recent months, I have been blessed with the opportunity to fulfill one of my many dreams and aspirations of entrepreneurship,” Trimble wrote in a social media post on Aug. 31. “I’m extremely grateful to officially be able to say that I am now an owner of the Ben & Jerry’s store on Franklin St.”

“The main goal is always the main goal, but I’m excited to stamp myself in a different way at this University,” he added. I am honored to reinvest in the community that has given so much to me. Go get y’all’s Ben & Jerry’s!”
As Trimble now spearheads his very own business venture off the court, he’s also being viewed as a voice of leadership for the Tar Heels heading into the 2025-26 season. The senior is one of only five players returning to suit up for UNC head coach Hubert Davis.
The fourth-year veteran from Wisconsin started over half of the Tar Heels’ games last year, averaging 11.6 points and 5.0 rebounds while recording double figures in scoring on 24 occasions.

“I am very excited about this upcoming season and this year’s team, led by Seth Trimble,” Davis said in a statement when UNC formally announced the 2025-25 men’s basketball roster in mid-August.
“In college basketball’s current state, Carolina has been fortunate to have multiple accomplished veteran players choose to stay at UNC,” he added. “Players like Leaky Black, Armando Bacot, RJ Davis, and now Seth Trimble are difference makers for us.”
