North Carolina guard and senior captain Seth Trimble suffered a broken bone in his left forearm during practice on Sunday, the team announced on X. Trimble is expected to have surgery this week and a timetable for his return is undetermined at this time.
He has spent his entire career in Chapel Hill and was the Tar Heels’ primary defender against Kansas’ Darryn Peterson in North Carolina’s win against the Jayhawks on Friday. The 6-foot-3 guard tallied 17 points, eight rebounds and three assists in the win on Friday.
Kansas head coach Bill Self had high-praise about Trimble following the game, telling reporters ““Yeah, but that’s not what he did best (his second-half performance). He blanketed Darryn (Peterson) in a way that to me was terrific.”
It is unclear who will replace Trimble’s spot in the starting rotation, but West Virginia transfer Jonathan Powell and Montenegrin freshman Luka Bogavac are considered the likely candidates.
The Tar Heels will be back on the floor on Tuesday, when they host Radford at the Dean E. Smith Center.
