ATLANTA (WNCN) – The matchups and venue for the next iteration of the CBS Sports Classic were unveiled on Thursday afternoon.
The North Carolina men’s basketball team is set to square off against Ohio State at State Farm Arena in Atlanta on Dec. 20.
The Tar Heels and Buckeyes will tip off the action in the first game of a doubleheader with Kentucky facing St. John’s in the other matchup. Game times will be released at a later date.
Both programs last met in 2022 at Madison Square Garden in New York, as UNC came away victoriously with an 89-84 overtime win.
In total, the Tar Heels and Buckeyes have played one another on 16 occasions. UNC leads 13-3 in the all-time series, which includes winning each of the past three matchups.
Entering its 12th year, the Tar Heels usually fare well in the annual four-team men’s college basketball event, holding the best overall record (7-4) among participating teams.
Hubert Davis’s program won during last year’s showdown, earning a much-needed boost for the Tar Heels’ eventual NCAA Tournament hopes in a 76-74 comeback victory over No. 18-ranked UCLA.
State Farm Arena will serve as host for the CBS Sports Classic for the second time in three years, last hosting the event in 2023.
