Projected TV Ratings For Iowa-South Carolina National Championship Are Massive

April 7, 2024 by The Spun

On Sunday afternoon, Caitlin Clark and the Iowa Hawkeyes will face Kamilla Cardoso and the South Carolina Gamecocks in the national championship game. The current expectation is that matchup could break records.

TV ratings expert Douglas Pucci told Front Office Sports that Sunday’s national title game could have more than 16 million viewers. That would set a new record for the most watched women’s college basketball game of all-time.

Earlier this week, the LSU-Iowa game broke the record that was previously set by the same two programs.

Clearly, women’s basketball is on the rise, and Clark’s popularity is a big reason why. She’s must-see TV every time the ball is in her hand.

South Carolina’s dominance has also been impressive to watch, so there’ll be plenty of viewers tuning in to see if the Gamecocks can finish their perfect season the right way.

Iowa, on the other hand, would love nothing more than to finish the Caitlin Clark era with a national title.

Interestingly enough, Iowa and South Carolina met in last year’s Final Four. The Hawkeyes won that game because of a 41-point performance from Clark.

Tipoff is currently set for 3 p.m. ET. We can’t wait to see who comes out on top.
