Shane Beamer Calls Out ESPN Reporter Over Spencer Rattler Report

There was a strong belief heading into Day 2 of the NFL Draft that South Carolina quarterback Spencer Rattler would come off the board. However, he’s still available as we enter the third and final day.

According to ESPN’s Pete Thamel, there are concerns about Rattler’s height and lack of speed. There are also questions about his work ethic and attitude.

South Carolina head coach Shane Beamer immediately debunked this report on social media.

Not only did Beamer rave about Rattler’s character, he pointed out how the gunslinger handled his final year at Oklahoma. In 2021, he was benched mid-season for Caleb Williams.

“Such a tired, lazy narrative. And [expletive]. None of the NFL teams that called me said that….And any team that thinks that clearly hasn’t done their research,” Beamer said. “He dealt with adversity at OU in a classy way, came to SC, was a great player and was voted by his TEAMMATES as a captain …TWO YEARS IN A ROW. He’s a great person, great player and some team is getting a future starter today.”

Rattler didn’t exactly put up jaw-dropping numbers this past season, but he did complete 68.9 percent of his pass attempts for 3,186 yards with 19 touchdowns.

Teams like the New York Giants and Las Vegas Raiders could use a potential-packed quarterback like Rattler on their roster.
