CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CAROLINA SPORTS LIVE) — The Hornets tipped off their season in style, taking down the Nets, 136-117, inside a new-look Spectrum Center Wednesday night.
Coming off a season recovery from a wrist injury, forward Brandon MIller scored a game-high 25 points on 8-of-19 shooting.
The win was Charlotte fifth straight in a season opener.
The Hornets started two rookies, fourth-overall pick Kon Knueppel and second-round center Ryan Kalkbrenner, for the first time in an opener in team history. They scored 10 and 11 points, respectively, with the big man from Creighton notching a double-double.
Another player returned to the floor who missed significant time last year in Tre Mann. After resigning in the offseason, the guard came off the bench to score 12 points and record six assists.
Charlotte shot 53 percent from the floor and scorching 47.2 percent from 3-point range.
The Hornets’ next game is Saturday at the Sixers.
