CHARLOTTE, N.C. (QUEEN CITY NEWS) — The Charlotte Hornets are teaming up with a local organization to launch a food pantry for service members and veterans in need.
The initiative kicked off at the Rowan Community Center in Salisbury on Tuesday morning.
During the event, pre-registered veterans and service members got to “shop” for groceries. Leaders of the nonprofit Soldiers’ Angels say their goal is to open the pantry twice a week for those in need.

Amid the government shutdown, many service members have become temporarily furloughed, on top of rising costs at grocery stores, veterans and active duty members need help more than ever.
The initiative was made possible through a $100,000 donation from the Charlotte Hornets Foundation.
