Sunday afternoon in Concord, NC, was a picturesque day for race fans. Thousands piled into the stands of ZMax Dragway to see the fastest cars in the world battle it out for supremacy and to hoist a Wally.
The main storyline for the NHRA this weekend was that this weekend marked the 1,000th Top Fuel race in the sport’s history, dating back to 1963. The Top Fuel finals for this event lived up to the hype with Antron Brown, Tony Stewart, and Justin Ashley all vying for the illustrious honor, but none of them could stop Shawn Langdon, who won the 1,000th race with a run of 3.714 seconds at 330.63MPH.
Top Fuel wasn’t the only storyline of the day, as Austin Prock built off of his win at the Vegas 4-Wide Nationals to win the Charlotte 4-Wide Nationals in Funny Car. At the same time, Dallas Glenn (Pro Stock) and Matt Smith (Pro Stock Motorcycle) also left the Queen City victorious.
The next time the NHRA will be on the strip will be in May, from the 15th to the 18th, when the fastest motorsport in the land will be outside of Chicago at Route 66 Raceway, and luckily, the NHRA will return to Charlotte later this year from September 19-21 ZMax Dragway will host a playoff event.
