MIAMI (CAROLINA SPORTS LIVE) — Although the Hornets were blown out by the Miami Heat Tuesday night, one member of the team unlocked a historic achievement.
In the 144-117 loss, rookie guard Kon Knueppel hit five 5-of-11 3-pointers for 19 points. He now has 16 on the season, which is the most for any player through four career games in NBA history, the team reported via Stathead.
Knueppel also is the second player in NBA history with at least three made 3s in each of his first four career games.
The fourth overall pick also had five 3s in Charlotte’s win over Washington Sunday night, and is shooting 58 percent from beyond the arc in his young career.
In Miami, the Hornets (2-2) trailed by just 3 after the first quarter, but fell into a 16-point halftime deficit that only ballooned from there. Point guard Lamelo Ball scored a team-high 20 points, with nine assists and eight rebounds.
The team had 17 turnovers, with nine combined from Ball and Collin Sexton.
The Hornets return to the Queen City Thursday when they host the Magic.
