CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CAROLINA SPORTS LIVE) — The Hornets are taking training camp on the road again this year.
Sources told CSL’s Mike Lacett that the team will head to The Citadel in Charleston, South Carolina, to prepare for the new season. NBA training camps open Oct. 1, unless a team has preseason games outside of North America.
Last season, the team held training camp at Duke University, but Charlotte is going from the home of a college hoops power to a military college. Renovations have been taking place at Spectrum during the last two offseasons.
The Hornets started practice for Summer League in Las Vegas Monday, and their first game is scheduled for Friday.
Spectrum Center renovations are expected to be completed by the start of preseason games in mid-October. Phase 2 includes reconfiguring the arena’s Founders Level, creating “North” and “South” districts on the concourse and adding 1,400 new seats within the lower bowl for all games and concerts. The team also is building a practice facility across the street.
