The Charlotte Hornets are retiring Dell Curry’s No. 30 jersey in the home arena rafters on March 19 against the Orlando Magic, the team announced Wednesday.
Dell Curry Played 10 NBA Seasons For Hornets
Curry established himself as one of the most accomplished players in Hornets franchise history. He spent 10 of his 16 NBA seasons in Charlotte (1988-98) and currently serves as a team ambassador along with a television analyst.
As a 6-foot-4 shooting guard, Curry averaged 14 points, 2.9 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.1 steals, and 26.1 minutes per outing in 701 career regular-season games (77 starts) with Charlotte.
On March 19th, No. 30 will be raised to the rafters.
Dell Curry’s lasting legacy as a player, broadcaster, and ambassador for more than 25 years with our organization will forever be honored and celebrated.

In the 1993-94 season, Curry was named Sixth Man of the Year after averaging career highs of 16.3 points and 2.7 assists to go with 3.2 rebounds, 1.2 steals, and 26.5 minutes in 82 games.
“I never imagined it would happen,” Curry said. “It means so much to me. I do it because it’s what I love to do. The game gave me so much, the fans gave me so much and I want to stay involved just to give back what I can and make this organization what it should be and give the fans, the team and the broadcast and the show that it’s fun, we’re having a great time and come celebrate, come support. … Man, it would be an injustice to try to put into words what this means.”
Curry is joining Bobby Phills (No. 13) as the only two players to have their jerseys retired for the Hornets.
Curry Led Charlotte To Playoffs Three Times
Hornets owners Rick Schnall and Gabe Plotkin made the decision to retire Curry’s No. 30 to honor his decades-long impact and contributions to the franchise. He retired as the team’s all-time leader in games (701), points (9,839), field goals made (3,951) and 3-point field goals (929).
“Dell Curry has been a cornerstone of the Charlotte Hornets for more than 25 years — both on and off the court,” Schnall and Plotkin said in a statement announcing the ceremony.
“He exemplifies what it means to be a Hornet through his professionalism, work ethic and commitment to excellence. Dell’s impact on our organization, our fans and our community is undeniable, and he is truly deserving of this honor.”
Curry also helped lead the Hornets to three 50-plus win seasons, including a franchise-best 54-28 record in the 1996-97 campaign, and four playoff appearances.
The Virginia native is the father of Golden State Warriors guards Stephen and Seth Curry. He’s spent 27 total years with the Hornets and is now in his 17th season as the team’s TV analyst.
Although he wasn’t as great of a shooter as Steph, Dell will forever be a Hornets legend.
