CHARLOTTE, N.C. (CAROLINA SPORTS LIVE) — After two years out West, Mason Plumlee is back with the Hornets.
Charlotte signed the free-agent veteran center to a one-year deal Monday, according to a report from ESPN’s Shams Charania. Plumlee played with the Suns last year, and the Clippers before that, after being traded by the Hornets in February 2023.
The 6-10 35-year-old gives the Hornets a likely starter at center after trading away Mark Williams and Jusuf Nurkic in the last five days. The is reportedly worth $3.6 million.
Last season in Phoenix, Plumlee averaged 4.5 points and 6.1 rebounds, playing 17 minutes per game. During his final year in Charlotte, the Duke grad was on track to put up a career-high 12.2 points per game until being traded.
Last week, Plumlee, who attended Christ School outside Asheville, made a $20,000 donation to ReGroup Western North Carolina, an organization that formed after Hurricane Helene to help restore homes.
Plumlee joins a center rotation that also consists of 6-9 Moussa Diabate and 7-1 second-round draft pick Ryan Kalkbrenner. He becomes the team’s third Blue Devils product, joining draftees Kon Knueppel and Sion James.
