LaMelo Ball and the Hornets were on the road Monday night to face the Cavaliers. Charlotte played a competitive game, but lost 139-132. They are now 9-20 in 2025-26.
On Tuesday, NBA insider Jake Fischer shared the latest report surrounding SG Collin Sexton. Fischer noted that the Timberwolves have interest in the eighth-year pro. Sexton was traded to the Hornets during the 2025 offseason. As the trade deadline draws closer, the Hornets could be more inclined to part ways with Collin Sexton. Will Minnesota be able to acquire the veteran guard?

With the 8th overall pick in the 2018 NBA draft, the Cavaliers selected Collin Sexton out of Alabama. He spent the first four seasons of his career with Cleveland. He appeared in 218 games and made 208 starts for the Cavaliers. During the 2022 offseason, Sexton was part of a blockbuster deal that sent Donovan Mitchell to Cleveland. Collin Sexton was sent to Utah. That’s where he spent three seasons before the team traded him in the 2025 offseason to the Hornets.
In 2025-26, Collin Sexton has appeared in 21 of the team’s 29 games and made 10 starts. He’s missed the last seven games due to a quad injury. NBA insider Jake Fischer reported that the Hornets could make Collin Sexton available closer to the trade deadline. One team that’s targeting the 26-year-old is the Timberwolves.

Fischer emphasized how Minnesota is looking to make an upgrade at PG. However, they are not trying to shake up the roster by doing so. That puts them into contention for a player like Collin Sexton. He is on the books for $19 million in 2025-26 and is an unrestricted free agent at the end of the year. Do the Timberwolves view Sexton as a one-year rental or would they sign him to a contract extension?
Sexton has played in 21 games for the Hornets this season. Primarily coming off the bench, he is averaging 15.5 points, 2.2 rebounds, and 4.2 assists per game. If the Timberwolves wanted to acquire Collin Sexton, they would have to part ways with players. Lower-level contracts like Donte DiVincenzo and Rob Dillingham could be moved. We’ll have to wait and see how aggressive the Timberwolves are ahead of February 5.
