RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The Carolina Hurricanes are back on home ice for the first time in 14 days, but the team at practice on Monday is quite a bit different from the squad that left on their recent annual state fair road trip.
“I don’t know how many guys went out there but it just seemed like every day there was something bad happening,” said Carolina head coach Rod Brind’Amour. “But it’s part of the game. But like I said, I think the guys we brought up played extremely well.”
One of the most recent call ups that is sure to have Canes fans excited is forward Bradly Nadeau. The young sniper scored a shootout goal at Monday’s practice. Defenseman Domenick Fensore was called up on Sunday, and he could become the third Chicago Wolves blue liner to suit up for Carolina.
“Those guys [who] came in were great, played really well, I thought,” said Hurricanes defenseman Jalen Chatfield. “They fit in, and it starts with training camp. A lot of those guys played in the preseason, so I think they came here prepared, and it was good to see that.”
Defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere was full-go at Monday’s practice and could play on Tuesday, depending on how he feels moving forward. If not, the Canes will make do with a group of young defenseman gaining valuable minutes.
“You just let them know they’ve got to play their game. They got called up for a reason and they want to show their strengths,” said Hurricanes forward Seth Jarvis. “I think they did a good job of that, guys that can come in and really play meaningful minutes for us and make a difference.”
Brind’Amour said K’Andre Miller could be back soon, but the same can not be said about fellow blue liner Jaccob Slavin.
