Best Philadelphia Flyers by Sweater Number: 91 to 99

October 9, 2024 by Last Word On Hockey

Welcome back for the final time, as we dive into the final part of our list. A list that includes NHL legends like Jaromir Jagr, Bobby Clarke, and Eric Lindros, gets its last entry in the series with just five more spots. This portion of the list will exclude numbers 91, 95, 96, and 99, since no Philadelphia Flyers ever wore any of those numbers on their jersey throughout the team’s history.

The Last Installment of the Best Philadelphia Flyers by Jersey Numbers Series And 92. Rick Tocchet

Tocchet started and finished his career with the Flyers. However, he is a player that has made stops in several cities during his 18-year NHL career. In total, he spent 11 seasons with Philadelphia. Nine of them at the beginning of his career when he wore number 22. The final two seasons of his career were also spent in Philadelphia when he was wearing number 92. Over his 11 seasons with the club, he posted 508 points (232 Goals, 276 Assists) in 621 games. Although Tocchet found himself winning a cup in Pittsburgh, Tocchet is most remembered as a Flyer. Despite being the only player to wear 92 for the Flyers, he would’ve easily been selected for this spot on this list.

93. Jakub Voráček

Voráček came to the Flyers from Columbus in 2011 in exchange for Jeff Carter. He went on to spend ten seasons in the Orange and Black before being moved back to Columbus in 2021 for Cam Atkinson. Voráček was part of the Flyer’s forward core during the 2010s alongside Claude Giroux, Sean Couturier, Wayne Simmonds, and Daniel Briere. Over his ten seasons in Philly, Voráček appeared in 727 games racking up 604 points (177 Goals, 427 Assists). With the Flyers, Voráček amassed 80 points twice, having 81 during the 2014-15 season. Moreover, his career high, 85 points, came in the 2017-18 season.

94. Ryan Ellis

Ellis was nothing but a disappointment, or more of a what could’ve been, while under contract with Philly. He was traded to the Flyers in July of 2021. The Flyers had thought they had finally got a strong defenceman who could lead a young, shaky blackened blueline at the time. However, Ellis played just four games in the 2021-22 season before suffering a torn muscle in his back that has had him sidelined since. This injury has been looked at as one that likely has ended his playing career. It is a shame and Ryan Ellis is a big ‘what if’ in Flyers history. But he snags this spot on the list as the only player to wear 94 for the club.

The Veteran of Flyers Jersey and Number 97. Jeremy Roenick

Roenick is one of the more well-known journeymen in NHL history as he played for five clubs over 20 seasons in the league. He spent three of those seasons with Philadelphia from 2001-2004. Roenick posted near point-per-game numbers with 173 points (67 Goals, 106 Assists) in 216 games. While in Philly, Roenick also made three straight all-star game appearances, one in every season he spent in Philadelphia. Not to mention, Roenick was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame as a member of the 2024 inductee class.

98. Victor Mete

Mete is the only player to wear 98 for Philadelphia, doing so for one singular game. Mete started his career in Montreal, having brief stints in Ottawa and Tampa Bay before eventually landing in Philadelphia. His one appearance was in the 2023-24 season, and after the season the Flyers released him. Although he didn’t do virtually anything for the club, he gets the last spot on this long list for his one game wearing number 98.

The Last of Our Series of Flyers Best by Jersey Number

That wraps up our list of best Flyers by numbers they wore on their jersey. Our list included a lot of memorable names, forgettable names, and even some players who made the list twice. In a couple of years, there will be some major changes to this list, we will see some players fill the voids of those numbers that have never been worn. Also, current players who are coming up through the system may even take over some spots held by older players.
