Edmonton Oilers List of Injuries Grows as D-Man Added to LTIR

December 11, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

The Edmonton Oilers are in the news today and it’s not all that positive for the organization. The main news is that defenceman Jake Walman has been placed on long-term injured reserve. He joins Kasperi Kapanen and Noah Philp already on LTIR. Furthermore, Jack Roslovic and Connor Clattenburg are currently on injured reserve for the Oil. Needless to say, their injury list is getting a little long. Luckily, the collective group is not hugely impactful, and the team has been starting to play better as a unit.

Edmonton Oilers Injuries Growing as Jake Walman Goes to LTIR

It is actually a good thing Walman is on LTIR. If it weren’t for the current cap relief of $5.4 million, they would be over the salary cap ceiling. Walman is currently listed as week-to-week, so general manager Stan Bowman will have some, indeterminate amount of time to decide how to juggle the current roster.

The #LetsGoOilers added Walman to LTIR, gaining $3.4M in Cap Space. After calling up Jones, they have $2.6M cap space remaining in LTIR with 21 active players (13F/6D/2G)

There are some rough timelines available for the others. Roslovic and Kapanen are due back around Christmas time. Moreover, Philp and Clattenburg are approximately a week away or so. When Walman is healthy enough to return, it might time for a bigger decision. It could either be regarding goaltending, or elsewhere, but it is an indication a trade will on the horizon for the Oilers.

Max Jones get the call up for the Oilers. He hasn’t laced them up in the NHL yet in 2025-26. For the Bakersfield Condors, he has seven points in 17 games, but most notably, 49 penalty minutes.

Now, we did reference the Oilers playing better of late. However, it is still a big hill to climb for a team considered a Stanley Cup contender. The team is 4-4-2 in their last 10, but better at 3-1-1 in the last five. Also, number 97, Connor McDavid has been turning it up a notch. Perhaps to get ready for Team Canada at the Olympics, but also, to get his Oilers back in contention. McDavid has five goals and three assists in his last three games. Additionally, his partner in crime, Leon Draisaitl, has seven points in those games.

As the Oilers are set to square-off against the Detroit Red Wings tonight, they are 13-11-6. They do hold down the second wild card spot in the Western Conference. However, that’s not where they want to be as a group. Meanwhile, Detroit actually leads the Atlantic Division heading into action tonight.

EDM Injury Notes:

• Philp returned to practice today & is getting closer. “Another week at the earliest.”
• Walman will take longer than anticipated, shares Knoblauch. Won’t be this week and unlikely for next week. “It’s going to be a while.”
• Both Roslovic & Kapanen will…
