CARY, N.C. (WNCN) — Fans made their way to Sports and Social in Cary in their Carolina Hurricanes jerseys, shirts, and hats for Game 5 of the Eastern Conference semifinals.
“Some people say it’s boring, but I think it’s very entertaining,” James Noteboom said.
Austin Jenkins, the siren sounder at the watch party, said, “I’m hoping for the best. I really want that W tonight and it’s my birthday today. Bring it home for us guys.”
Some fans felt the watch party was comparable to seeing the game at the Lenovo Center as they watched the game on a 42-foot screen and listened to music from a DJ.
“I will say it’s the loudest hockey stadium I’ve ever been to every time I go there,” Nick Morae-Aldarado said.
The Hurricanes entered the game with a 3-1 series lead over the Washington Capitals. Fans were on edge due to the game being on the Capitals’ territory.
“It’s in DC and that the Capitals’ season is on the line, so they will be fighting hard to stay alive,” Sophie Mendez said. “I’m hopeful the Canes can pull it out. If not, we will get them on Saturday.”
Fans are also excited about the Hurricanes’ chances of win the Stanley Cup, which seemed distant at the beginning of the season.
“I didn’t think it was as attainable at the beginning of the season, but the guys brought it together coming down the stretch,” said Sebastian Mendez.
Said Jenkins, “[A championship] would mean everything. I would be crying. I’m going to be cheering.”
The Hurricanes defeated the Capitals 3-1 to advance to the Eastern Conference
