Andersen plays well as the Canes win eighth straight

The Carolina Hurricanes fell behind, 1-0 in the opening period but scored three straight goals to defeat the San Jose Sharks, 3-1 on Thursday night at the SAP Center.

It was the team’s eighth consecutive win.

The Sharks scored shorthanded when the puck got past Brent Burns. The defenseman made a valiant effort to break up the play and dove on the ice to stop a potential pass. Instead, he tripped William Eklund, who fell into Frederik Andersen in net.

The continuation of the play knocked the net off its’ mooring, but the puck crossed the goal line before the net fell off, so the goal counted.

It was a crazy play which Andersen had no chance to stop.

In the second period, the Canes came out strongly with an attempt to tie the game.

Seth Jarvis scored an unassisted goal midway through the period, his 27th of the season making it, 1-1. While the goal was unassisted, Jackson Blake and Sebastian Aho made nice plays on the puck before the score.

About five minutes into the third period, Aho scored the eventual game-winner, his ninth game-winning goal of the season. Blake and Brent Burns got the assists.

A little bit later, Taylor Hall, who had another strong game, made a sweet pass to Sean Walker who made no mistake to make it 3-1, which closed out the scoring.

The Carolina penalty kill was perfect but the powerplay was still lacking.

The Canes outshot the Sharks, 29 – 25. They won 60% of their faceoffs.

Andersen made 24 saves on the 25 shots he faced. He picked up his fourth win in a row.

Burns played his 911th consecutive game. Mark Jankowski played his 400th NHL game.

Next up will be a match against the Los Angeles Kings on Saturday.
