The Canes continue winning ways with strong win in Chicago on Sunday night.
The Carolina Hurricanes extended their winning streak to five games as they defeated the Chicago Blackhawks, 4-2 on Sunday night in Chicago.
The Hurricanes have one game left in their regular season, a match against the Blue Jackets in Columbus on Tuesday night.
They remain just one point behind the Rangers who will face the Senators for their final game.
The Hurricanes scored three times in the third period to wrap up this game. They outshot the home team, 34-16 and dominated that stat.
Seth Jarvis scored two of those goals, both while on the powerplay. Strangely enough, he was only credited with one shot on goal, so scored twice with one shot. That is efficiency! (His first goal touched him before eventually finding the net.)
Jordan Staal scored in the first period, to tie the score at the time. Sebastian Aho skated in an empty netter to close it out.
Pyotr Kochetkov played well in net and made some tough saves, though he was not over-worked.
The Hurricanes will travel to Columbus to close out their regular season on Tuesday night.
Game Notes:
- Officially, the team went 2-3 on the powerplay. They did not allow a goal on the penalty kill and remain number one in the NHL in that category.
- The Canes outshot the Hawks in every period. Necas had a team high 6 while Staal had 5.
- Slavin had a team high 20:54 of ice time, but Burns, Orlov, and Pesce each had over 20 minutes.
- Orlov led the team with two hits.
