RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — The Carolina Hurricanes finally got their first conference final win in nearly two decades on Monday, giving themselves the chance to come back home and try to get another win to keep their season alive.
The Canes and the Florida Panthers square off in Game 5 of the Eastern Conference Final of the 2025 NHL Playoffs on Wednesday night at the Lenovo Center. Puck drop is scheduled for 8 p.m. The Panthers hold a 3-1 lead in the series.
With their season on the line Monday night, Carolina shut out the defending Stanley Cup champions 3-0 to extend their season. Logan Stankoven scored in the second period to give the Canes their first lead of the series, and then Sebastian Aho and Jordan Staal both found the back of the net in the final period. Frederik Andersen started in goal for the Hurricanes and had 20 saves on the night.
If Carolina is able to get another win, the series will head back to south Florida for Game 6 on Friday. If the Panthers win, they advance to the Stanley Cup Final for the third consecutive season.
