RALEIGH, N.C. (WNCN) — Just before the Carolina Hurricanes ended the Capitals’ run in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, a player from the NC Courage shared her love for the team in a new episode of Extra Time with The Courage, streaming on the CBS 17 PLUS app.
Kaleigh Kurtz, defender for the NC Courage, spoke with CBS 17’s Jordan Crammer exclusively, saying she considers herself a true Caniac. In the interview, she said she tries to forget that Hurricanes’ head coach Rod Brind’Amour was a Philadelphia Flyer back in the 90’s before winning the Stanley Cup with the Canes in 2006.
“I think that he has a great tactical brain for the game. He seems to treat his players really well, and they respect him,” said Kurtz.

She also mentioned that her inspiration behind being defense-minded stems from Brind’Amour’s coaching style and the team’s ability to capitalize on power plays.
“I’m a defender, so the fact that they have such powerful power play kills is amazing… I love what he’s doing with the team,” Kurtz said.
The Canes have stamped their ticket to the Eastern Conference Final of the Stanley Cup, waiting for the winner of the Florida Panthers-Toronto Maple Leafs semifinal series.
As for the Courage, their season is underway in the NWSL, with a record of 2-3-3. Their next game is Saturday against the Chicago Red Stars.
