The Canes will have some real action today.

Nearly four hours after the first pick of the 2025 NHL Draft was selected, “Bad” Bill Byron appeared on the screen to announce the Carolina Hurricanes’ first-round pick live from Atlanta Motor EchoPark Speedway.

The 2024 and 2025 Daytona 500 winner tossed it back to NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman to announce a trade of the 29th overall pick to Chicago in exchange for two second-round picks and a fifth-rounder in 2027.

Al Hood described it perfectly last night: this move came as no surprise to anyone.

Today, the Canes will see some real action. Carolina holds seven picks today. Does the team add to the draft stockpile by moving down, ship some picks off as part of player trades, or bring in seven new prospects?

General Manager Eric Tulsky and the team will be active today. And so will Canes Country.

Managing Editor Bob Wage has coverage from the media center at Canes Draft HQ, and the rest of the team will provide updates on each move Carolina makes today.

Round two starts at noon Eastern, and coverage through the end of the draft can be seen on the NHL Network and ESPN+.
