The Canes add another Russian to the prospect pool.
The Carolina Hurricanes selected Kurban Limatov with the 67th pick of the 2025 NHL Draft. A powerful skater best described as a mobile defenseman, the Russian was most recently with MHK Dynamo Moskva of the MHL.
Limatov’s skating ability is even more impressive when considering the 18-year-old is 6’4”, 190 pounds.
His skating ability leads to impressive zone entries, and his vision leads to great passes. In his first season in the top Russian junior league, Limatov tallied eight goals and 15 assists in 46 games.
Limatov was ranked as the ninth-best international skater by the NHL Central Scouting service and was generally regarded as a late first-round to mid-second-round pick.
Alexander Nikishin was selected 69th overall in 2020. Could Limatov be another steal in the 60s?
Carolina is stacking young talent from Russia, seemingly finding value in the prospect pool where other teams are not.
The Hurricanes traded the 125th overall pick and a 2026 third-round selection, originally from Dallas, to Los Angeles in exchange for this selection.
