The New York Rangers’ “retool” is now in production mode.
Rangers general manager Chris Drury on Monday engineered a deal that sent defenseman Carson Soucy to the New York Islanders for a 2026 third-round draft pick.
A deal for center Vincent Trocheck would put Drury’s effort into overdrive. Outside of goalie Igor Shesterkin and defenseman Adam Fox, the Rangers’ locker room is up for bids. Come one, come all.
The Rangers entered Monday as the Eastern Conference’s lowest-ranked squad, trailing the Columbus Blue Jackets and Ottawa Senators by five points. They trailed the conference-leading Detroit Red Wings by 19 points.
NHL trade rumors indicate the Carolina Hurricanes remain interested in a reunion with Trocheck.

NHL Trade Rumors: Hurricanes Could Use C2
A proven playmaker, Trocheck compiled 610 points in 839 career games. The past three-plus seasons with the Rangers, Trocheck, the team’s top-line center, scored 84 goals.
But with the Rangers struggling this season, Trocheck’s offense has slumped. In 39 appearances, he posted 11 goals among 33 points. His minus-16 rating is a career low. He was a plus-21 during the 2021-22 campaign, his last with the Hurricanes.
The 2011 third-round draft pick has three additional seasons on his contract that will pay him $5.625 million annually. The Hurricanes paced the Metropolitan Division by eight points over the Pittsburgh Penguins and 10 over the Islanders.
If the Hurricanes were able to pull off a deal for Trocheck, the 32-year-old likely would replace Logan Stankoven as the second-line center. His presence could boost the play of wingers Taylor Hall, Nikolaj Ehlers and Jordan Martinook.
Some insiders view Trocheck as the missing piece for Carolina to become a true Stanley Cup contender.
