Canes fall behind and cannot catch up on the road
The Carolina Hurricanes fell behind 2-0 and could not overcome the deficit as they lost to the Detroit Red Wings, 5-3 on Friday night.
Early in the second period, Seth Jarvis stole the puck and fed it to Jackson Blake, who stayed hot and buried the shot to make it 2-1.
But the Wings scored two more times within 21 seconds in the second to give them a 4-1 lead.
The Canes would score twice more to make things close again.
Justin Robidas earned his first NHL point when Eric Robinson tipped in his shot.
In the third period, Brent Burns scored his sixth of the season.
Alex DeBrincat then scored into an empty net to close it out.
After the game, Rod Brind’Amour said that the team was not “engaged” in the opening period.
There is no rest for the wicked as the team takes on the Bruins in Boston Saturday night.
