Tim Stutzle Hits 400 Games Played as an Ottawa Senator

December 18, 2025 by Last Word On Hockey

In honour of Tim Stutzle of the Ottawa Senators 400th career NHL regular season game tonight versus the Sidney Crosby led Pittsburgh Penguins, let’s bring a recap of where he is in his career. Also, we can look how he compares statistically with others on the Sens all-time lists. So, let’s go Sen fans.

Ottawa Senator Superstar Centre Tim Stutzle Hits 400 Games Played

Stutzle is set to become the 25th player to reach the 400 game mark as a member of the Ottawa Senators franchise. He is regarded as one of the most skilled players ever to wear a Sens sweater. Furthermore, that’s not to mention his standing as one of the most skilled players in the NHL right now. As you can see by the graphic below, it is quite impressive how high the 23-year-old German is on the franchise all-time lists. He appears in the top ten already in goals, assists, and points (power play and total).

Most points by Senator in first 400 games

  1. Spezza – 416
  2. Yashin – 376
  3. Stutzle – 359
  4. Alfredsson – 343
  5. Hossa – 326

When Stutzle hits the ice tonight, he will become the third highest point collector after 400 career games as a Sen. Being in the same company as Alexei Yashin, Jason Spezza, and Daniel Alfredsson, is without doubt, a remarkable achievement.

The other side of Stutzle’s game is the versatility he offers. For a young player, he has been a great all-around contributor to the Ottawa Senators. Two seasons so far, he was over 21 minutes a game. Moreover, this season he is up to 20:39 a night, but trending upwards lately. With the absence of Shane Pinto from the lineup, head coach Travis Green can rely on Stutzle to elevate. He has been a regular penalty killer throughout his time in Ottawa, showcasing his true value to the club. Of course, his speed and skill are undeniable, noted by his career highs of 39 goals and 90 points, that he achieved back in 2022-23, at only 21. Even though he has a more well-rounded game, with less risk involved in his decision making, it will be interesting to see when Stutzle eclipses those marks. For him, it really is a matter of when, not if. Those 39 goals are the ninth most ever in a season for the franchise.

Stutzle Has Really Come Into his Own

Stutzle continues to work on his game, as well. Currently, his career faceoff win percentage sits at a less than desirable, 44.8%. In contrast, he put in work in the offseason. Whether we can thank Sam Gagner, Claude Giroux, Daniel Alfredsson, or a collective organizational effort, Stutzle is humming along at 55% this campaign. His career high sits at 47.8%, not counting 2025-26.

For comparison purposes, and a fellow German great, Leon Draisaitl, who just hit a milestone himself, had 387 points through 400 career games. Considering he was the 21st fastest to ever reach 1000 career points in terms of games played, not too shabby. Stutzle finds himself only 28 points off that pace.

It will be a thrill to see the fruits of their labour payoff for Stutzle and this Senators group. Last year they got their first sniff of Stanley Cup Playoff action. Now, thanks to the greatness of Stutzle, as well as the growth in maturity, and added experience, the Sens look to hit new heights in the years to come. 2025-26 has been slow getting going, but this group is confident they have what it takes to better last year’s results. And the one the call Jimmy Stu, is a huge reason for it.
