We’re counting down the days until the Panthers open up the 2025 season!
There are 42 days until the first game of the 2025 season for the Carolina Panthers. Today, we’re taking a closer look at the the player currently wearing the No. 42 jersey — safety Trevian Thomas.
An undrafted free agent rookie
The Panthers signed Thomas to a three-year, nearly $3M contract as a undrafted free agent after the 2025 NFL Draft. Thomas, a 23-year old rookie out of Arkansas State, was a three season starter at strong safety in college. He is on the smaller side for a safety, but he fits the athletic profile of what Evero is apparently looking for in his safeties.
The brief history of 43
The number 42 jersey has only been worn by five players in the regular season: Reggie Howard, Travares Tillman, Tony Fiammetta, Colin Jones, and Sam Franklin. The moral of this jersey’s story is that if you can make a significant impact on special teams then you can probably make a brief career out of being a back up safety and special teamer for the Carolina Panthers. Good luck to Trevian Thomas and good luck to the rest of us in the comments if Brian sees how little air I gave Jones in this article.
