The Chinese New Year recess has provided the market with a timely increase in demand. The market this week finished in positive territory across the board, with all sectors active. The Chinese topmakers led the charge despite a positive increase in the currency, did little to dampen the enthusiasm. Add to this the European competition on the best fine wool available and the last real volume of best style from now to September 2026. Traders have expressed good sales at market rates over the last couple of days which is great news for wool growers. Certified wool in both merino and crossbred types continue to attract keen competition and healthy price incentives. The back part of the season will certainly test the resolve of traders and processors as the drought affected wool with increased seed and dirt will surely provide some challenges.

Forecast
Week 36 provides another 38,000 bales to the market which by early indicators will be keenly sought as traders and topmakers compete for volume. China has surely been the shining light taking up to 88% of our offerings, however we still need consistent and improved competition from Europe, India, Korea and Japan. Processed wools still lead the way dragging the rest of the market along with it.
