Breaking: Disastrous 49ers Injury Could Lead to Huge Trade

September 22, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Even though the San Francisco 49ers are 3-0, they continue to lose some of their key starters, and now star pass-rusher Nick Bosa will miss the rest of the 2025 campaign with a torn ACL injury. According to the breaking news, the 49ers will have to move on from Bosa for now, as the defensive end isn’t going to return. The good news seems too temporary for San Francisco since they’ve been able to win football games without starter Brock Purdy last week. However, the biggest question for the 49ers this season is how long this can last before everything slowly falters when they lose.

Despite that, it’s a huge blow for the 49ers’ defensive scheme either way, as the five-time Pro Bowler has always been consistent and dominant in several moments. However, this could invite the idea of trading for another defensive star that could salvage the defensive line, and that is Danielle Hunter from the Houston Texans. Originally selected in the third round of the 2015 NFL Draft, the former LSU product had the same illustrious career as Bosa and could be an immediate upgrade. With the Texans no longer a winning postseason team at 0-3 this year, they could be open to trading him to San Francisco, but at the right price and draft picks.

The Texans, like any 0-3 team, will probably be open to trading their talent, so the 49ers won’t be the only roster that may attempt to pursue Hunter.

Other Possible Suitors

Dallas Cowboys

After their latest loss against the Chicago Bears, the Dallas Cowboys are open to the idea of trading for a “special” player with the extra first-round picks that they have. While they took a hit at the receiver unit with CeeDee Lamb missing some time, they need some extra depth help on defense. They could trade for a cornerback since Trevon Diggs has been struggling, and DaRon Bland has missed time due to injuries as well. Despite that, the Cowboys haven’t been able to stop the run, and while they haven’t seen what Jadeveon Clowney could do, they could trade for another defensive end.

Dante Fowler Jr. and Sam Williams haven’t been living up to expectations on Matt Eberflus’ new defensive scheme, but Hunter could turn up the heat. This trade might be really solid enough for the Cowboys to forget about Micah Parsons.

New Orleans Saints

Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints are 0-3 like the Texans, but they should never be afraid to upgrade their roster. After trading for DeVaughn Vele and claiming Trey Palmer off waivers to improve their offense, they should continue doing the same for the defense. They’ve been able to trade for Davon Godchaux this offseason, but they traded away Khalen Saunders to the Jaguars. With Cameron Jordan in the final year of his deal and on the brink of retirement, they could trade for Hunter to be a long-term replacement for him.

Carolina Panthers

However, the Carolina Panthers are coming off a promising shutout win over the Atlanta Falcons. This is something to watch if the team can stay consistent. While they sign Tershawn Wharton and Bobby Brown to help Derrick Browm, Hunter’s presence could change things around for the Panthers permanently.
