Browns Icon Could Be Playing Final Game With Team

September 21, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

Cleveland Browns tight end David Njoku has been one of the most consistent players in recent franchise memory, but the former first-round pick could be on the trade block following Week 3’s action. Currently sitting at 0-2, the Browns are in danger of watching their season go to waste. While veteran Joe Flacco hasn’t been a liability, he hasn’t recaptured the magic from his late 2023 run. The present-day version of the quarterback isn’t good enough to compensate for a weak roster, which means the Browns could start trading veterans for draft picks in an attempt to rebuild the roster.

Despite his historical value to the organization, David Njoku is easily one of the top trade candidates on this team. Now playing in the final year of his contract, Cleveland will likely to to get something of value for the 29-year-old, especially since rookie Harold Fannin seems to be the real deal. Njoku isn’t a Brock Bowers or Trey McBride type of player, but he’s a solid starter who should have plenty of interested suitors if he becomes available.

Browns Could Trade David Njoku After Week 3 Loss

Possible Fits

Kansas City Chiefs

The Kansas City Chiefs desperately need to find weapons to support superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes. While receivers Rashee Rice and Xavier Worthy will return to the field eventually, they must do something about the tight end position. Travis Kelce is one of the greatest players in NFL history, but the three-time Super Bowl champion is simply out of gas. While Mahomes still targets him in the passing game, he lacks the burst and acceleration after the catch to be a dangerous threat. David Njoku is a better player at this stage in their respective careers, and a trade can’t come soon enough. Currently sitting at 0-2, Kansas City must act fast to save its season.

Washington Commanders

Through two weeks, the Washington Commanders offense has not looked as dominant as it did to end 2024. While Jayden Daniels’ knee injury likely played a role in the underwhelming Week 2 outing against the Green Bay Packers, this team could use another set of hands. Zach Ertz knows how to find the holes in zone coverage, but the 34-year-old has lost a step over the years. A David Njoku trade would give Daniels (when healthy) a reliable threat who should help them compete in one of the game’s more competitive divisions.

Carolina Panthers

The Carolina Panthers are not seriously competing for a Super Bowl, but that shouldn’t stop them from pursuing a David Njoku trade. Bryce Young has regressed from his hot finish to the 2024 season, and that step backwards could be due to a lack of offensive weaponry. First-round pick Tetariora McMillan is legit, but the rest of the weapons leave something to be desired. Njoku could give this team the veteran leadership it needs with Adam Thielen in Minnesota and could help to bring out the best in Young. With Dave Canales possibly on the hot seat, this team can’t afford to wait and see if Ja’Tavion Sanders can break out.
