Bryce Young will look to turn the page from an underwhelming NFL debut
Last year’s No. 1 overall pick threw 11 touchdowns with a 73.7 quarterback rating for the 2-14 Carolina Panthers. Young discussed those shortcomings as he prepares for his second season.
Per team reporter Darin Gantt, Young wants to become the “best version” of himself moving forward. He hopes a new coaching staff can provide a clean slate and reset the organization’s mindset after a rough 2023.
“I think as a team, individually, all combined, I think we learned a lot and grew a lot,” Young said. “Obviously, it was not the year we wanted to have last year. But, you know, you’re able to learn from those experiences.”
The 22-year-old believes his team is “definitely hungry” to distance themselves from a disappointing season and improve.
“Definitely, there’s an eagerness,” Young said. “And you can tell in the locker room there’s that want-to, to get to where we need to go. So I think that’s something that’s definitely driven everyone.”
Young said a rebound starts with him assuming a heavier leadership role.
“I’m making sure that I take accountability and responsibility for us to make sure that we’re on the same page,” he said. “I think last year, I came in, and I wanted to learn. Obviously, I was in a position where I’m the starting quarterback and a leader, but also I felt like there was a process of me trying to learn and earn that respect, and earn the ability to be a leader.”
Young cited the importance of establishing a strong culture in Carolina. That’s a key task for Dave Canales, who will become the team’s seventh head coach since the start of 2019.
