The New York Rangers have decided to trade one of their younger defencemen. News emerged that the Rangers have made the K’Andre Miller trade. The 25-year-old was sent to the Carolina Hurricanes. In exchange, the Rangers are acquiring Scott Morrow and a conditional first and second-round pick.
Some thought the Rangers would hang onto Miller. However, the Blueshirts pulled the trigger on making a trade.
After trading for Miller, the Hurricanes signed him to a contract extension. Miller agreed to an eight-year deal worth $7.5 million.

New York Rangers Complete K’Andre Miller Trade
Miller has only played for the Rangers across his five-year NHL career. The St. Paul, Minn. native had seven goals and 20 assists for 27 points in 74 games this season. He has a Corsi for of 48.0 and a relative Corsi of -2.7.
The former University of Wisconsin product had 36 goals and 96 assists for 132 points in 368 career games. New York originally drafted Miller in the first round, 22nd overall, of the 2018 NHL Draft.
Miller has represented the United States on the international level. He was part of the silver-medal winning squad at the 2019 IIHF World Junior Championships.
What It Means
It seems that the roster turnover of the Rangers is continuing. Miller is a restricted free agent, and the main concern is that Rangers General Manager Chris Drury wouldn’t be able to pony up the coming raise. The Rangers had to move on and make sure they got something in return.
New York was supposed to be a Stanley Cup contender. However, some rough patches caused the Blueshirts to sell off some assets. Drury made a trade for J.T. Miller prior to the deadline, and that did help for a bit. However, it doesn’t seem to be enough to keep the other Miller on the roster.
The Carolina Hurricanes get a young defenceman with a lot of upside. With an extension set to come, Miller could be an important cog in the blueline group. He may become a fixture on the back end.
