Carolina Panthers first-year running back Trevor Etienne can now be considered his own man.
While just 20 years old and a recent fourth-round draft pick, Etienne on Tuesday agreed to terms on his rookie contract with the Panthers. While his older brother, Jackson Jaguars running back Travis Etienne, may be a more established NFL player, the younger brother remains poised to go his own way.
Just like Travis, who is six years older, advised Trevor to do.
“I feel like everyone always tried to see him as just my little brother,” Travis told The Charlotte Observer. “He’s actually his own person. I feel like he has his own running style (and) I feel like he has his own mannerisms.
“I just kind of wanted him to go out there and forge his own path.”

Brothers Travis, Trevor Etienne Grew Up Inseparable
Growing up in small-town Jennings, Louisiana, brothers Travis and Trevor Etienne, shared a bunk bed a room for much of their youth.
Despite the age difference, wherever Travis went, Trevor followed. Playing neighborhood sports with older boys, Trevor grew up fast and eventually challenged some of his brother’s high school rushing records. He followed him into major college football and now the NFL. Just like when he was a kid, Trevor followed Travis everywhere.
“My mom wouldn’t let me go anywhere without my little brother,” Travis said.
Drafted No. 114 overall, Trevor Etienne compiled 2,086 rushing yards and 23 touchdowns in three seasons with Florida and Georgia. With second-year running back Jonathon Brooks out for the season with a knee injury, Etienne could be in line to earn RB3 snaps.
“(Having a year off) really just allows him to focus on … full health, strength,” coach Dave Canales said of Brooks.
With 62 college receptions, the 5-foot-9, 205-pounder could trend toward developing into a third-down back in Canales’ run-first offensive philosophy.
With offseason training activities (OTAs) beginning May 27, the Panthers have signed seven of eight draft picks. Second-round edge Nic Scourton, who participated in last week’s rookie minicamp, remains the lone unsigned rookie.
