How did the Panthers do in fantasy football? Will those trends continue?
The Carolina Panthers finally got back in the win column, and Bryce Young got a little revenge against the New Orleans Saints in Week 9. Let’s take a look back at how individual Panthers players fared and if they are worth keeping moving forward. For these articles, I will be using fantasy totals in an ESPN Fantasy league I am part of, so your numbers might have been slightly different.
Quarterback
Bryce Young
While Bryce did not put up insane passing numbers, but he did enough to get the win against the Saints. He had less than 200 yards passing with one touchdown and one interception (which was absolutely not his fault at all). His 9.74 fantasy point this week were decent, and he goes up against the New York Giants defense in Germany this week. The Giants are not a defensive juggernaut, so Bryce might be able to get the ball downfield a bit more. It’s good to see his confidence start to return. Let’s hope the Giants help add to that confidence.
Running Backs
Chuba Hubbard
Chuba had his best fantasy performance since Week 4 this past Sunday. Largely helped out by his two rushing touchdowns, Hubbard ended with 21.2 fantasy points. He still only got 15 carries, which is becoming a concerning trend from Dave Canales and the offensive staff. Hopefully the return of Jonathon Brooks this week will make Canales stick with the run more often.
Wide Receivers
Xavier Legette
The rookie first round pick has had solid back-to-back games, once again reaching the endzone en route to 13.9 fantasy points, also his best since Week 4. A wrist injury sidelined him for some time and likely attributed to the catch he made that was stripped away for an interception. Hauling that in likely makes his performance a good one instead of solid. Still, he is definitely a top red zone target for Bryce and the Panthers, so Legette is a good FLEX or WR3 option.
Jalen Coker
Coker only had three targets but caught two of them, including a nice leaping catch for a first down. Though he only got 5.6 fantasy points this week, he has definitely shown that he can get open against NFL defensive backs. With the Giants up next, he could continue that trend and possibly get into the endzone again. If you’re willing to take that risk, he could be a decent option depending on byes and injuries this week.
Tight Ends
Ja’Tavion Sanders
I hadn’t even been bothering to mention the tight end production for the Panthers in this piece the last few weeks because of the dearth of meaningful stats from that position group. This week, however, Sanders was a huge cog in the offensive machine. He caught four passes for 87 yards, including the only offensive play of over 40 yards for the Panthers all season. His 12.7 fantasy points were a very good number out of the tight end position. He might be someone to claim and stash in case he and Bryce continue with this chemistry moving forward.
