CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Jaycee Horn endured an auto accident near Bank of America Stadium on Wednesday morning. The Carolina Panthers’ cornerback suffered a cut on his left hand, but escaped major injury.
Panthers coach Dave Canales said Horn missed the NFL training camp joint practice with the Cleveland Browns and remains listed as day-to-day.
“I’m glad that Jaycee was okay,” Canales said during a post-practice press conference. “He did have to have a few stitches in his left thumb area. And so, they got that all cleaned up and sutured up.
“It doesn’t seem like anything else happened.”
Canales added Horn would not dress for Friday night’s preseason opener against the visiting Browns. With the Panthers planning on playing their starters on offense and defense for at least one series Friday, Horn will be absent as Browns rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders is expected to start opposite Bryce Young.
Horn reportedly was driving alone to the stadium when the collision occurred at the corner of Morehead St. and Mint St. in Uptown Charlotte. Horn was seen at the practice and did light individual work with cornerback Mike Jackson.
Posting on X (Twitter), Horn said: “I’m straight! Nun major thank god.”
Canales expects Horn, who signed a four-year, $100 million contract extension last offseason, to return to practice next week and play in the Panthers’ second preseason game against the host Houston Texans on Aug. 16.
“(Horn) will be able to still do some activity and running and all that,” Canales said. “Hopefully, we can get him turned around so we can take advantage of an opportunity in Houston for that game.”

Panthers QB Bryce Young Making Browns Believers
Young’s rocky road as a professional is well documented. As a rookie in 2023, the No. 1 overall draft pick withered behind a faulty offensive line, rarely throwing downfield as the season progressed. Last year, he was benched after two dismal starts.
Young’s second-half resurgence last season appeared to re-energize the franchise, which has qualified for the playoffs since 2017, and its fan base. Few doubt the 2021 Heisman trophy winner remains the key to Year 2 of general manager Dan Morgan’s roster rebuild.
Young made a believer out of Browns defensive end Myles Garrett, a former defensive player of the year.
“I think he looks a lot more comfortable than the first time he suited up,” Garrett said. “I think they really rallied around him, and I’ve seen that he can lead this team and do well. The playmaking and game-changing ability haven’t changed. I think it was just him finding his own confidence, being comfortable in the role and them allowing him to lead and standing behind him.”
