Cowboys, Panthers Could Connect On Huge Trade

September 27, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

The Carolina Panthers had one of the deepest wide receiver units entering the 2025 campaign, but they could trade Xavier Legette to the Dallas Cowboys. According to a few reports, Legette has been named a fit for the Dallas Cowboys after losing CeeDee Lamb ever since his high-ankle sprained he suffered against the Chicago Bears. Even though it’s not a huge deal that Dallas will be without Lamb for at least two weeks, one little move could ruin the chemistry for the passing offense for quarterback Dak Prescott. With DaRon Bland missing a few games, the secondary wasn’t the same, so just imagine how the offense will turn out.

Originally selected in the first round of the 2024 Draft, the former South Carolina product is slowly fading in the background in the Panthers’ depth chart. Despite him not being a proven playmaker, he still has a ton of upside that could turn into value, and his size could make him an intriguing trade candidate. Between George Pickens, Jalen Tolbert and KaVontae Turpin, this trade should give some relief for Prescott’s aerial attack that already lost former Panther Jonathan Mingo for a couple of games a few weeks back. It wouldn’t be a huge loss for the Panthers since they still have plenty of offensive weapons for Bryce Young after drafting Tetairoa McMillan, and they still have veteran Hunter Renfrow, David Moore, Jalen Coker (when healthy) and Jimmy Horn.

Cowboys, Panthers Could Connect On Xavier Legette Trade – 3 Other Potential Fits

Possible Destinations

Los Angeles Chargers

The Los Angeles Chargers are on a generational run, and they must take advantage of this moment while they can. After years of having issues at the receiver position, Justin Herbert is finally connecting with his wideouts in the right situations. This includes improvement from Quentin Johnston and key contributors like Ladd McConkey and veteran Keenan Allen are stepping up hugely. However, why not get more depth for this passing attack that is progressing?

It would not hurt to add a weapon like Legette to develop in the background with KeAndre Lambert-Smith and Tre Harris. He could turn into a long-term weapon for the Chargers once Allen decides to retire from the league.

Kansas City Chiefs

Meanwhile, the Kansas City Chiefs got good news in their receiver core group despite frustrations. Xavier Worthy is returning to the starting lineup after almost three weeks of being out with an injury. However, they should still be in the market for an offensive weapon. With Marquise Brown set to become a free agent next offseason, they should stack talent now that they’ve been able to develop and experiment with Tyquan Thornton.

Legette might be the next man up to turn into a viable deep threat, and the Chiefs are the team to do that.

Minnesota Vikings

Even with Jordan Addison finally returning from his suspension, the Minnesota Vikings should continue to improve the pass attack behind him and star Justin Jefferson. While they did trade for Adam Thielen to salvage this pass-attack, he’s past his prime and could be on the verge of retirement at any moment now that JJ McCarthy is dealing with injuries. Legette gives them a fresh start to pair with Jalen Nailor and Tai Felton to improve their game.
