Cowboys, Saints, Panthers Could Intervene in Eagles Visit

September 8, 2025 by Last Word On Pro Football

After spending almost a month with the Miami Dolphins in July, the Philadelphia Eagles are bringing in cornerback Mike Hilton for a visit. According to reports, Hilton could find a permanent home soon, at least for the 2025 campaign, and if things go well, he should be signing at least a one-year deal. Originally selected as an undrafted rookie in 2016, the former Ole Miss product spent his rookie season on the practice squad between the Jacksonville Jaguars and New England Patriots. Hilton spent much of his time with two AFC rivals, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Cincinnati Bengals.

While he had his best performances with those two teams, unfortunately, his best days are behind him, recording 520 total tackles, 11 sacks and 13 interceptions. He might have some gas left in the tank, but it’s also easy to see why the Eagles are interested in the veteran cornerback. The team has two high-level contributors in Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean as their starters, but they have a struggling backup cornerback in Adoree’ Jackson. While he had a chance to operate as a starter in Week 1 against the Dallas Cowboys, he struggled to make an impact on the field.

This is why they’re on the hunt for a new cornerback, and that would send Jackson back to backup duties moving forward, but these three other teams may intervene and be open to a visit from Hilton.

Possible Fits

Dallas Cowboys

While the Dallas Cowboys were able to shut down the Philadelphia Eagles for most of their offensive possessions in Week 1, they could use another cornerback who may be open to playing blitz. Like in previous years, the Cowboys are struggling to stop the run, and that was evident from running back Saquon Barkley running all over them. It’s still early in the season, and Trevon Diggs could use some depth behind him, as Kaiir Elam didn’t have the best performance.

2025 draft pick Shavon Revel Jr. has yet to get some snaps on the field, but why should the Cowboys rush him if he’s coming off an injury in college last year? Hilton could be a safe, low-stakes investment to stabilize the cornerback group behind Diggs and DaRon Bland.

New Orleans Saints

Meanwhile, the New Orleans Saints have one of the worst secondary units in the league. After their Week 1 loss, it will only get worse for this pass secondary if they can’t upgrade at least at some point during the midseason. Alontae Taylor and Kool-Aid McKinstry have huge shoes to fill in for former Saints, Paulson Adebo and Marshon Lattimore. Hilton may never recapture the same form he once was, but he’s better than what the Saints have in their unit.

Carolina Panthers

Just like the Saints, the Carolina Panthers also had a rough Week 1 against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Jaycee Horn had himself a game, recording one interception, but they must upgrade this cornerback further for Michael Jackson behind him. Hilton joining the Panthers won’t get him a ring anytime soon, but it should give him the spotlight to perform at his best.
