Let’s take a closer look at one of the prospects the Panthers could select in the 2025 NFL Draft.

Since it’s never too early to look forward to the NFL Draft, this weekly series will take a closer look at some of the prospects the Carolina Panthers could select in the 2025 iteration of the Draft. In this series, we’ll only be looking at prospects the Panthers could seriously consider. This week our profile will focus on Texas Longhorns safety Jahdae Barron.

Barron, a versatile 5’11” 200lbs defensive back, is a fifth year senior for the Longhorns. He has a ton of versatility and a knack for the big play, as evidenced by his three non-offensive touchdowns (one blocked punt return, one interception return, and one fumble recovery and return). He’s also a tackling machine, notching over 60 tackles in 2022 and 2023. This season, he has already been credited with 29 tackles and has set a career high with three interceptions. His versatility has really been on display this year as he has lined up at safety, nickel, and linebacker in certain packages.

His route recognition, instincts, and athleticism make him a force in zone coverage, and he has shown the ability to pattern match and mirror receivers in man coverage. He also plays the run well, using his high level of play strength to affect runs at the point of attack and to set the edge when outside. Unfortunately, he does tend to lead with his helmet when attempting tackles from time to time. That, plus his occasional over-aggressiveness in the run game, can occasionally lead to poor angles and missed tackles. Also, while he does well in man coverage, he does get a little handsy in press coverage. With more and more defenses employing more complex schemes (e.g. the Chiefs and Ravens), Barron has the football IQ and athleticism to be a coveted Day 2 pick.

What do you think, Panthers fans? If Jahdae Barron is available when the Panthers select in the 2025 NFL Draft, should they take him? Sound off in the comments!
