The Panthers general manager addressed the media with just a week left until the 2025 NFL Draft.

Carolina Panthers general manager Dan Morgan held a press conference with about a week until the 2025 NFL Draft. He answered questions from the media about the team’s process and the strategies they have going into the event.

The first real question was one that always piques the interest of fans. When asked about trading down, Morgan said the team is definitely going to be listening to offers for the eighth overall pick. He wouldn’t set a point of delineation where the Panthers wouldn’t go past but said that all options are on the table. News about Derek Carr potentially dealing with a significant injury has the Saints looking like a potential quarterback landing spot, which Morgan thinks will lead to an increase in call volume from teams looking to jump ahead of them.

Morgan was asked a few questions about Jalon Walker directly. He called him an outside linebacker “for our defense” and spoke highly of his play making ability. The media members present really seemed to want to get a quote from Morgan tipping the Panthers’ hand. Joe Person in particular seemed especially interested in trying to get Morgan to show his cards with some semantic questions about his wording of certain answers.

Person also directly asked Morgan if he’d draft a safety. Morgan said he would definitely like to get one but isn’t going to force a certain position at certain spots.

As for the roster as it currently stands, Morgan agreed with comments head coach Dave Canales made a week or two ago about how much he likes the receiving room. He’s happy with the way Xavier Legette and Jalen Coker are developing along with the presence of Adam Thielen for the next year. Despite multiple pointed questions about specific players, Morgan consistently reiterated that the team isn’t going to box itself in when it comes to positions they look at. They could draft a wide receiver. They could draft a tackle. They’ll draft whoever they think helps the team the most.

The last few minutes of the press conference were a sort of rapid fire of random questions, like if Morgan places any weight on where kids went to school or if they transferred schools and things like that. He brushed off those questions and kept reiterating that the team is just trying to draft good football players.
