Dolphins Could Sign Top Superstar Free Agent After Latest Hiring

January 22, 2026 by Last Word On Pro Football

Following the hiring of head coach Jeff Hafley, the Miami Dolphins are officially in rebuild mode and could turn to signing Packers free agent Romeo Doubs this upcoming offseason. The former Green Bay defensive coordinator, Hafley, will take on head coaching duties in Miami, and several Packer players could follow. The latest hire provides some relief for the Dolphins after firing former head coach Mike McDaniel, so a lot of things are about to change for the Dolphins, so it shouldn’t be surprising if a few Packer free agents begin to follow him. Fellow Packers edge rusher, Micah Parsons, took to X and appreciated Hafley’s contributions and described him as a “great person.”

Dolphins Could Sign Top Superstar Free Agent Romeo Doubs After Latest Jeff Hafley Hiring

This is the type of energy that any NFL athlete wants in the locker room, and since the Dolphins will get a new, fresh breath of air in 2026, expect the team to look into Doubs. The former fourth-round pick is arguably one of the most durable receiving weapons in the league. Despite not eclipsing past 1,000 receiving yards during the 2025 campaign, the weapon has been enormous and stayed healthy to make an impact. With the Dolphins expected to cut superstar Tyreek Hill, the Dolphins will likely turn to Doubs to fill the void.

There were rumors this past season that they could move Jaylen Waddle, but that got shut down after a few interested teams reached out. Waddle and Doubs sound like a serious duo in Miami as long as they can obtain an adequate quarterback to replace Tua Tagovailoa. If the Dolphins get Malik Willis, many should expect Hafley to be aggressive in free agency to get Doubs.

Other Potential Fits

Los Angeles Chargers

The Chargers plan to hire Mike McDaniel as their new offensive coordinator, which should be a step in the right direction for quarterback Justin Herbert. The hope now is that the team can get Herbert some long-term superstar weapons to help Ladd McConkey in the aerial attack. While they did address the receiving unit last offseason, it wasn’t enough for Herbert to avoid the major injuries he’s been playing through. Some blame can be put on the offensive line that took a hit, but Herbert needs pass-catchers to get open and haul in the tough catches.

Doubs is a perfect candidate for that. Keenan Allen was brought in as a temporary anchor, but he has slowed down over the past few weeks before the wild-card. If the Chargers want to return to the postseason, they should consider looking into Doubs as their No. 1 receiver to help McConkey.

Kansas City Chiefs

Meanwhile, everyone should expect the Chiefs to make a strong push for a receiver in free agency. With Rashee Rice facing new legal trouble, the offensive weapon could be suspended again. The team can’t afford to put all the responsibility on Xavier Worthy again like last season. Marquise Brown doesn’t plan to return, so Doubs coming in should be a relief for Worthy, Tyquan Thornton and second-year Jalen Royals.

Carolina Panthers

The Panthers surprised many this past 2025 campaign. Jalen Coker and Tetairoa McMillan have impressed the offense this season, but they could use more adequate help in the unit. McMillan is a future superstar, but given Doubs’ potential stardom, he could turn this Panthers receiving corps from good to phenomenal. He has the hands and length to make Bryce Young comfortable to throw the deep balls. Doubs, McMillan and Coker all sound like a real steal for the team that could find themselves at least in the divisional round in 2027.
